Artblok is the idea that something special can happen, even in the most blight-ridden neighborhood streets, in any city. Through a series of amazing and unexpected events, FlavoredLayers was able to acquire the north side of upper Mandeville Street, in the Arts and Historic Preservation District of Downtown Utica, NY.
The vision for Artblok is to create an art and agriculture ecosystem to positively impact our community.
- Artist in Residency program, with housing, studio, and commercial gallery space.
- A commercial art gallery highlighting local to international artists, promoting tourism in Utica and the Mohawk Valley.
- (Re)Maker-spaces encouraging artist collaboration and innovation.
- Community and event gathering space for educational events, workshops and local connection.
- Commercial art businesses, including fine art framing and large format digitization.
- FlavoredLayers Farms' hydroponic urban farm, providing fresh produce, education, certification, and workforce development opportunities.
Together, these elements will weave art, food, and community into a vibrant cultural corridor positioning Mandeville Street as a catalyst for neighborhood revitalization, economic opportunity, and creative community empowerment.
